Hospital Facilities In House Blood Pathology Machine We have an in house blood pathology machine which allows us to perform a variety of diagnostic tests. We can immediately get blood test results for critical patients, monitor hospitalised patients and do pre-operative blood tests for pets undergoing general anaesthesia. Please click here to learn more about pre– anaesthetic blood testing. We also have various in-house antigen tests such as heartworm testing, feline leukemia virus, feline immunodeficiency virus (FIV) tests which can be completed while you wait. Blood pathology machines (left) and an in-house SNAP antigen test (above) Surgical Theatre We have a separate surgical theatre with a state-of-the-art gaseous anaesthetic machine and advanced monitoring equipment. These various monitoring devices measure your pet’s heart rate, pulse, oxygenation level and ECG. We use gaseous isoflourane anaesthetic which is one of the safest inhalation anaesthetic agents available in the veterinary industry. Our veterinary nurses monitor patients at all times from induction through to recovery in our purpose built hospital area. When we are in the surgical theatre we wear surgical gowns, gloves, masks and hair nets to avoid contamination and maintain the sterility of the surgical environment (as is done in human hospitals). (Pictured from left to right): Dr. Barry Odesnik and Dr. Ariadna Marczak operating in theatre, our monitoring equipment and our isoflourane anaesthetic machine. Hospital and Prep Room Area Our hospital area is well designed and is separate to our surgical operating theatre. It contains purpose built, comfortable hospital cages designed to cater for patients of all sizes. Whether our patients are recovering from surgery or in hospital for the day, all of their needs have been catered for. We utilise our prep room area to do non-sterile procedures such as dentistry, ear flushes and abscess repair surgeries. These procedures are done in our spacious prep room area to ensure that bacteria does not contaminate our surgical theatre. Vital Vet has a separate radiology room with new digital x-ray equipment. Our radiology machine (above) was used to take xrays of little Boris’s legs. He has an unusual growth deformity where his radius and ulna are bowed , as can be seen in the radiographs pictured above right. Dentistry We have a state of the art IM3 dental machine with an ultrasonic scaler and separate polishing unit. We also have a brand new dental kit with advanced dental instruments. This ensures the best possible standard of dental care when your pet comes to us for any dental procedure. Pictured left to right: This is Missy who had severe, painful dental disease. She required a dental scale and polish under general anaesthetic. These are photographs of her procedure. You can see the yellow tartar on her teeth and her inflamed gums. Dr. Barry used our ultrasonic scaler to remove the hard tartar and plaque. He used the surgical dental instruments (below left) to remove the teeth which were decayed and rotten. Her teeth were polished using our polisher and prophy toothpaste. She recovered well and is now eating comfortably and has much fresher breath! Additional Diagnostic Instruments We have a variety of instruments used to assist Dr. Barry in diagnosing his patients. Dr. Barry has a brand new microscope which he uses for cytology. We have a blood glucose monitor, refractometer (used to determine urine specific gravity), urine dipstick tests, tonometry and ECG. Pictured below (left to right) is Dr. Barry’s microscope, digital photographs of urine crystals and cells under the microscope, and a refractometer. Consulting Rooms and Reception Area Our hospital features spacious, quiet consulting rooms which are separate from the reception area. This gives you and your pet privacy and a low stress environment. Our goal is to provide the best care for you and your pet in a calm and friendly atmosphere. We have a spacious reception area with a large display of our food and various products we have for sale. We are always available to give animal care advice and help you with your pet. If we do not have a specific item that you require, we can order it in for you and have it for you the following day. |
